Chivalry is dead........And women killed it !!

Now that's a blame she refused to accept. Since both the statements were not completely true. Chivalry was on its way out but it wasn't even close to dead. Agreed it could do with some CPR but there was hope.
And the feminist movement had better things on it's agenda other than murdering chivalry.

Women fought for the right to vote so they could decide who got to make the laws of the land. They fought to have a career/economic independence and a stake in shaping the world they wanted to see their kids grow up in. They fought to be heard and be treated with equality and honor that's deserving of every human being irrespective of gender. You think they'd rake up a revolution because they took offense to men opening doors, pulling out chairs or standing up when they walked into a room? Really ??

Anyway, that being said she personally found nothing more charming in a man than chivalry. Just because women were capable of doing most things men did, didn't necessarily mean they didn't enjoy being pampered, protected, shielded or even cherished every once in a while. She was a lady; she acknowledged it and liked to be treated as one. Not that she had a dearth of chivalrous men around....

What's more sweet on the ears than an "Allow me" or "The pleasure is all mine" or "Its been an absolute honor"....You seldom hear men say that these days. Its true. Men should be nurtured that way growing up. There is a popular phrase that she loved very much - "A man who treats his woman like a princess is proof that he has been born and raised in the arms of a QUEEN".

Top 5 gestures that made her heart melt (technically may or may not be chivalry) :
  • A guy taking his coat off and offering it to his girl on a cold winter day (Very filmy yet nice)
  • A girl falls asleep watching TV on the couch and the guy covers her with a blanket
  • The girl's walking on a crowded street. The guy slips beside her and switches places so she is on the other side of the sidewalk and not brushing past strangers
  • Sharing a cup of coffee. The guy takes the saucer and lets the girl have the cup
  • A girl walks into a room and the guy stands up and gives her the chair.
Honorable and chivalrous men, are far and few. But however scarce, its pure delight running into one and an an even greater pride belonging to one !

So long folks .......

God Bless America !!

She'd lived in the US for over 5 years and it was practically her home now. Her daughter was born in this country and US symbolized memories of her marital life, her prosperous career and it was irrefutably the cornerstone to her becoming an independent woman.

While there were quite a few things she disliked about the US in the inevitable comparison to her motherland; there were just as many if not more things she loved about this great nation. She paused to ponder....What did she love most about this country? Was it the lifestyle, the prosperity, the infrastructure, the endless opportunities or the ability to welcome talent with open arms ? Or was it the people? The American people. As diverse as a nation can get....With immigrants from almost every part of the world; yet amiable and welcoming.

There may be exceptions - as to what the average man generically terms "racism" ....But c'mon who isn't a racist? We all have our biases. Its either language or culture or geography or gender....Alright so there's a color bias too. But its the land that people have chosen to come to escape political oppression or to achieve economic stability or gain from higher education or simply to pursue their dreams. This country has engulfed each flight and given it endless skies.

Personally, she'd had the most pleasant experiences with the people in America - both in her personal and professional life.  She was sold on the fact that they were so forthright and sincere. They didn't see loop holes in anything. That's probably why they outsourced 'Testing'. They followed instructions to a 'T' and they Believed without Doubt. If someone walked to their manager and told them "They had to go home early because they were sick"....In all likelihood the manager would say 'Do you need a ride?" unlike the usual 'Whats making you sick?" or "Didn't you take off 2 weeks ago under the same pretext?" etc....

The other outstanding trait - they were born salesmen. They could package and sell you just about anything. It is said that a good salesman is one who sells a $10 comb to a bald guy. The Americans will sell you the $10 comb and $250 hair growth formula with it, so you can use that comb eventually. That's how good they are.

She was having an off-handed conversation with Todd (her co-worker) and she said "I worry for my daughter. When one is raised in India you inevitably learn survival skills. That's why we survive anywhere. But she is being raised here and she is so by-the-book, it worries me as to how she would get things done". To that he responded "Well, you don't have to do it yourself in America, you know. You must just have the ability to find the right guys to do it for you and have the resources to get it done...That's how we operate". She didn't know if she was amused or assuaged after that conversation.

One thing, she was sure about. If she had to stay away from home, US was her next best choice and she had grown to love the country more with each passing day !!
