Her Best Friend's Wedding

h

It was 8:30 pm on a pleasant August evening. She was at the venue of the wedding waiting for the ceremony to begin. It was her best friend Krish's big day. She sighted the bridegroom all dressed in a black and gray suit. Krish had been her classmate since graduation and her best friend too. They shared a very special bond. He was one of her closest buddies; someone she trusted implicitly and someone that was totally indispensable in her life. She quickly walked up to the dressing room to wish him good luck for the wedding. She gave him a warm hug and told him that he looked awesome. It was quite an over-whelming feeling seeing him in that attire. On his part, he seemed overjoyed to see her and she could sense the relief that he felt in knowing that she was there. Krish ardently wanted her to be present for the most extraordinary moment of his life, so he'd adjusted the date to accommodate her vacation to India.

The wedding rituals began and she kept looking at the wonderful couple that were entering into a new phase of life. She prayed that they be blessed with complete marital bliss because he was someone who deserved to be genuinely happy. Krish was not just her best friend but was also a wonderful human being. Optimism was his middle name. She had not known anyone that was so positive in all her life. She always went to him with her apprehensions and he would make them fade away. He was a wonderful son, a good brother and a perfect friend. And she knew for sure that he would make a great life partner.

She was ecstatic that he had found someone to love and cherish for the rest of his life. Just the same she also felt a deep sense of loss. Like she was letting him go and that her whole equation with him was about to undergo an irreversible transformation. She remembered Heather and Krish express the same sentiments when she got married to Ryan about 3 years ago. Back then, she'd reassured them that nothing would ever change how they felt about each other and that they'd still mean the same to one another. In retrospective, nothing had. But she now completely understood how they had felt and what they had meant.

Letting go was not easy. She felt a little pain and a lot of uncertainty. Like something broke inside her heart leaving behind unrelenting pangs of distress. She hoped they would never lose what they shared 'coz very few people were fortunate to be blessed with such good friends.

Best friends are for keeps. And Krish was someone she could never let go and today she knew that for sure. "Good luck buddy as you step into a new phase of life. I'll always be there for you. Today, tomorrow and forever", she promised.
