Divine Intervention

She hailed from the land of deities, temples, multiple religions and places of worship. She was raised in the faith that God was omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent. Did she believe in deities ? By virtue of conditioning - yes. She'd never questioned the existence of deities but she wasn't completely convinced either.

What she did believe without a doubt was in the existence, the power and the will of the "Divine". Someone/something that orchestrated the entire universe. Someone that listened when she prayed ardently. Being a control freak, she seldom looked beyond herself for answers. But on a variety of occasions, it had seemed like no matter what she did, there weren't any definitive answers; sometimes she merely didn't get it; other times she knew it was simply beyond her control. During all those times, He was there to hold her and guide her every step of the way.

She didn't quite understand what people meant when they said that if you didn't get what you wanted, something better awaited you. Because in her case, she knew exactly what she wanted most of the time and she got it when she prayed with an honest and sincere heart. Sometimes it had taken longer than other times, no doubt. When she was a little girl, her Dad often said to her: "Before you pray, practice. Make sure you have the clarity of thought and words to articulate your needs. God listens and grants wishes the way He interprets them. You don't want to make a wish/prayer that is open to interpretation." She recollected his little speech on various occasions and smiled in appreciation.

The crux of the story is Faith. There are people that don't believe in the existence of God and get along just fine. Its not like atheists are punished or its not like their life is disorganized. Its not like miracles haven't come their way. Having faith in God is merely a way of coping or quintessentially surviving life. Its one's way of handing burden out when it becomes too much to carry. Its one's way of looking up and believing that someone/something on the outside is capable of accomplishing what the self can't. Each to his own.

She was a believer. How else could she explain all the blessings in her life ? She had so much to be thankful for; Not having someone to thank would be ironic, don't you think?

P.S: Here's a beautiful song about God's unconditional love in the mesmerizing voice of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Listen and enjoy.

-So long !!
